Offshore Wind is Driving a CTV Demand Surge Across APAC

The APAC offshore wind industry is entering a critical growth phase, and the demand for Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) is outstripping available supply in the region.

The Numbers

Taiwan's 20GW offshore wind target requires an estimated 120–150 CTVs for construction and O&M support. Vietnam's pipeline adds another 80–100 vessels. South Korea's programme requires 50–70. Currently, fewer than 200 purpose-built CTVs operate across all of APAC.

Supply Gap

European CTV operators are beginning to deploy vessels eastward, but transit costs and regulatory differences create barriers. New-build capacity at APAC yards is constrained, with lead times of 18–24 months.

Market Opportunity

This supply-demand imbalance creates opportunities for vessel owners with suitable tonnage, and for buyers who can secure quality CTVs ahead of the peak demand period. Second-hand CTVs with proven offshore wind track records are now trading at near new-build parity.

WBT as a Marketplace

WBT has launched a dedicated CTV category with enhanced specifications data and charterer-grade documentation requirements, making it the go-to platform for offshore wind vessel transactions in APAC.
