In a major shift for the cruise sector, both Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises have confirmed the suspension of their 2026/27 winter seasons in the Middle East. The decision reflects growing concern over regional stability, with both brands opting to move their ships to more predictable markets in Europe, specifically the Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Western Mediterranean.

The LNG-powered Costa Smeralda will now lead a new seven-day itinerary in the Canary Islands and Madeira following a drydock period. Meanwhile, the Costa Pacifica will move to the Western Mediterranean to offer expanded voyages. AIDA Cruises has similarly canceled the Middle East deployment for the AIDAprima, with plans to announce a revised winter schedule shortly.

While these cancellations represent a setback for Middle East cruise tourism, the companies have emphasized their desire to provide planning certainty for guests. Affected passengers are being offered rebooking options and onboard credits as the lines look toward a potential return to the region in the 2027/28 season with the AIDAperla.
